The Jeju World Natural Heritage Center was built to commemorate the value of Jeju’s nature, the only site in Korea to attain the three certifications of UNESCO (World Natural Heritage, Global Geopark, and Biosphere Reserve).

The best of UNESCO’s Natural Heritage
Geomun Oreum houses the largest erosion gully formed by volcanic activities in Jeju, which stretches for 4 km in a U shape. It is also known as Geomulchang (Geomeolchang) and “Geomeun Oreum,”
or “black Oreum”; the etymological roots of the character “Geom” is thought to be stemming from the character “Gam” or “Geom” of the Gojoseon Period. Hence, Geomun Oreum is interpreted as a “holy mountain.”
